Stefan Janoski’s Nike SB has been part of the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle charity initiative for several years.
As part of the 2022 collection, the skater silhouette is revised by Catalina Vazquez, a 16-year-old girl from Kelso, Washington, who has been diagnosed with Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. For many years, she dreamed of visiting the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador, which was reflected in the design of sneakers.
Catalina drew flowers by hand, applied oil graphics and noted the blue shade of the top, reflecting her love of nature. Like butterflies, Vazquez has undergone many changes, because she was diagnosed with the disease when she was only three days old.
Sneakers stand out with a DNA spiral print and a midsole with the message “The cure is in our gene”. All this reflects the things that motivated Catalina to be creative and love life. She is currently aspiring to become an equestrian masseur.
